Zen and the Art of Kitchen Design

Every now and then I get a client who knows exactly what they want. As much as I enjoy guiding the aesthetics it's always a joy to have decisions come easily. This is such a project. My main input was in the layout and cabinet selection.  We removed the peninsula with a sink and added an island. Sink moved to the wall and island has room for 2 seats. Before the clients never used the table on the other side of peninsula and 1/3 of the kitchen wasn't being used, pity. We doubled the pantry space and got rid of a deep, hard to reach corner with a tall pantry. Better lighting and a new spot for the TV. Now this space is really getting used !
Cabinets: Reginato Designs, Bellmont Cabinet Co.  1600 and 1900 lines, alabaster paint on Index door style. Construction and lighting layout : David Cattarusa, Cattarusa Builders.

View from the foyer

Stools tucked under "table" part of island. Lola on the job.

Arts and Craft style pendants, White Ice granite, 2 1/4 thick on island while perimeter is 1 1/2 thick., adds visual weight to island.
Mitered edge, no seam.

View of cooktop from island seating. Angled end cabinet to help with traffic flow.
Dining room through doorway.

Kohler farm sink, "Whitehaven" with low bridge. Best of both worlds, like a one bowl but 2 areas.

Roomy in front of Frig and ovens.
Square knobs mirror door style and bin pulls keep the "Arts and Craft" feel.

Back of island, entertainment beverage and wine units.

Glass front door for glasses. Dishwasher on left with panel. This helps minimize  the stainless steel factor.
Recycle & trash on right.

Tricky corner, frig, pantry and ovens. Clearance is the issue.

Cooktop area, with lots of useful drawers ! Low key hood. Glass "subway" tile, subtle color variation adds interest.

Lots of usable counter top space.

View into hallway

New TV area, Lola likes it !
